Bono Apertum Maloque Serratum » answer
by Salvarsan (UN), 2013-07-29, 17:10  Spam?
I found this motto below a individual/family crest:

Bono Apertum Maloque Serratum

I'm not certain if it is Latin at all, but I thought I would ask here.

The main symbol for the crest is a large door with a cross-bar.  The folklore is that the family was once "the king's door keeper".  Family is from Scotland.

Thanks in advance.

I will never understand why people would want tattoos in a language they do not understand and/or speak...

that I could translate a couple of those requests here in the forum, aswell as the DE/LA-forum.

But why would I take responsiblity on that one. Latin Tattoos should be translated by a proffessional and not in a forum. If you pay some bugs for a tattoo, you might aswell pay 50+ for a pro too.
Imagine someone would answer these questions and people actually go for it. Running around with a wrong phrase :)

that's what i don't understand: that some people would trust some anonymous guy in a forum and get a permanent tattoo with what this anonymous guy has said...
this just feels wrong.

This story has kept me busy all day translating. I will not stop until I figure out how to do it!!! If someone can translate this VERY simple story, I will help you with another translation! But please do not translate this with a Machine like GOogle Translate.

There was once a little boy, his name was John.
He was famous for killing a beast.
"He attacks! I will stop him." John thought.
John ran to Damian and hugged him. Damian, the giant black monster, hugged him back with tears. They loved each other as friends. He returned with the greatest speed back to his village. "The monster is killed." John cried. "He sleeps forever."
The village was extremely pleased. The great monster had been slain.
A few years later, John is walking up the mountains to gather sticks. He walks through the trees and sees...

Ave pulcherima » answer

Hello out there

I have medieval Marienlied from Rostocker Liederbuch around 1450 that I desperatly need a translation for. Is it somebody out there that can help with that.

Here is the text - and thanlk you so much for reading this

Ave pulcherima regina,
Gracia divina, quam trina beavit,
ante nec post creavit maiorem te.

Te rex regum, deus deorum,
dierum maltorum pro morum virtute
sponsam in juventute traxit ad te.

Mira res: angelum emiserat tanto placuisti
plena es gracia quam dixerat, verbo concepisti,
virgo permansisti, dixisti:
secundum verbum tuum iocundum fiat in me

Salve laus patrum prophetarum
glosa scripturarum serarum serata
porta perambulata ezechiel

Sicut rubus non concrematus
moisi flammatus seratus, sic paris
nescia virgo maris emanuel

Aaron arens virga floruit...

Strange words (typographic shortcuts?) » answer
by Ziomal (UN), 2013-02-23, 03:16  Spam?
I have a problem with the following printed text in Latin:
http://books.google.pl/books?id=Z5w_AAAAcAAJ&hl=pl&pg=PP19#...
There are some strange looking words which I cannot find in any dictionary. What they have in common is that they all end with something similar to `q;` (the small letter Q followed by a semicolon), and that without this suffix they seem to be correct words. But why are they there then?

They don't seem to be any printing error or something, but seem to be there on purpose, because they repeat frequently and they have always the same form. Also, these semicolons don't seem to be logical in these places of the sentences.

Some examples of these words are:  usq;  ipsamq;  aliaq;  aliquousq;

It looks like shortcut or typographic convention from these times.
I tried to interpret them as `qi` or `qui`, but it doesn't work either.

Does anyone has any idea what could it mean?

Memorial tattoo translation » answer

I am looking for a translation for a tattoo that I would like to get for my best friend that died tragically and suddenly. I would like it to say something along the lines of... "Rest in peace and in paradise we shall be reunited", "Heaven is where we'll meet again", "We'll meet again in heaven". If I could have a translation for all 3 I would be ever so grateful! :)

I am looking for the correct translation of: "truth is stranger than fiction" into latin, so far in my working i have come up with two different answers
a) veritas est mirabilius fictionem
b) veritas est hospes quam fictio

i am trying to work out which is the correct out of the two, if neither are correct what the actual correct translation would be?
